The Midway Raiders will venture away from home to challenge the Triton Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Midway is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.6 runs per game this season.
South Johnston hit Midway with a five-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Raiders fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 7-6. The Raiders' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Wesley Tew put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Carson Tew and Cameron Register stepped up to the plate in a big way. Tew went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Register went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Triton took on Western Harnett on Tuesday. The Hawks were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Eagles. Considering the Hawks have won three matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Midway, Triton also got a great game from a two-way player: Alan Hinson. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Hinson a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other pitching news, Tyler Blankenbecler got the start for Triton and what a start it was: he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts Blankenbecler has posted since back in March of 2025.
Back at the plate, Chase Sewell and Brayden Bates did most of the damage at the plate: Sewell went 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Bates went 2-for-3 with two runs. Another player making a difference was Ashton Dawson, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Triton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Western Harnett only posted an OBP of .355.
Triton's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average this season. As for Midway, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
Both Midway and Triton just can't seem to miss. The Raiders have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Triton struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.7 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Midway skirted past Triton 4-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
