The Redwood Rangers will head out on the road to face off against the Mission Oak Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Redwood has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Last Thursday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Redwood beat Sanger 55-51. Given Redwood's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 161st, while Sanger is ranked 444th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Redwood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aryel Chavez led the charge by scoring 11 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Tayo, who scored 12 points along with 7 steals.
Mission Oak has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 20 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 62-23 win over Hanford West at home. 62 seems to be a good number for Mission Oak as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Isabella Zepeda continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 20 points along with 8 rebounds and 8 steals. The matchup was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. Phoenix Ryan was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Their wins bumped Redwood to 4-1 and Sanger to 4-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Redwood have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Mission Oak struggles in that department as they've been even better at 43.5 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Redwood was dealt a bruising 54-24 loss at the hands of Mission Oak in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Can Redwood avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
