The Wood Wildcats lost against the Grant Pacers back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Wood took a hard 61-45 fall against Grant. While losing is never fun, Wood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 485th, while Grant is ranked 98th).
Wood's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lucia Alexander, who scored 12 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalia Sanchez, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Grant got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Asia Washington out in front who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Washington has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Samaya Dillard, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Wood's loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Grant, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wood won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Armijo at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Armijo is hoping to put an end to a ten-game streak of away losses. Grant won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Kennedy at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th.
