North Kingstown and La Salle Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Skippers will take on the Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
North Kingstown lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Coventry, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Saturday's match. The Skippers were the clear victors by a 15-2 margin over the Oakers on Saturday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for La Salle Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Mt. Hope a 6-0 shutout on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won three in a row.
Jairo Martinez looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Adryan Urena was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April. Another player making a difference was Bronx Discullio, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
La Salle Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mt. Hope only posted a batting average of .045.
La Salle Academy pushed their record up to 15-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for North Kingstown, they moved to 13-7 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
North Kingstown skirted past La Salle Academy 3-2 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Skippers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
