The Eastlake Titans will take on the Point Loma Pointers in a tournament on Tuesday. Eastlake's pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so Point Loma's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Eastlake gave up the first runs last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Poway by a score of 4-1.
Jordan Gomez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other pitching news, Max Tello looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Joel Vargas was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Aaron Corona also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Point Loma had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They blew past the Broncos 10-2. The result was nothing new for the Pointers, who have now won five matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Like Eastlake, Point Loma also got a great game from a two-way player: Phoenix Brant. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Brant was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Branden Keeling, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Michael Hall was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Point Loma lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Eastlake's record now sits at 6-3. As for Point Loma, their record is now 8-2.
