Basketball Recap: Kate Myers Key Part of a Team Effort in Eagles Win

Pleasant Grove hadn't done well against Cosumnes Oaks recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Pleasant Grove Eagles came out on top against the Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack by a score of 63-53. With that win, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 50.2 points per game.

Pleasant Grove got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kate Myers out in front who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Myers a new career-high in assists (eight). Leila Williamson was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 14 boards.

Pleasant Grove smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Cosumnes Oaks still got an impressive performance from Sophia Mendenhall, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. Mendenhall has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Caitlin Subejano, who posted 14 points along with seven boards and six assists.

Pleasant Grove has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points per game. As for Cosumnes Oaks, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 9-11.

Pleasant Grove didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-44 defeat against Monterey Trail on the 27th. Cosumnes Oaks has also already played their next game, a 61-42 win against Twelve Bridges on the 27th.
