Palatine has gone a perfect 3-0 against Vernon Hills recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Pirates will face off against the Cougars at 4:45 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Palatine is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Dundee-Crown on Friday. The Pirates came out on top against the Chargers by a score of 9-4. The Pirates' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Palatine got a great performance from Tyler Kreuz as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Kreuz has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Palatine let Maddux Heilman and Jett Greiwe run wild. Heilman went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Greiwe went 1-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave Greiwe a new career-high. Brandon Ziebell also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Vernon Hills made easy work of Varsity Opponent on Monday and carried off a 9-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.
Ken Kim tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Devin Ratajczak, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Porcelius, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Palatine's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Vernon Hills, their record now sits at 2-0-1.
Palatine skirted past Vernon Hills 8-6 in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
