The West Ranch Wildcats will face off against the Valencia Vikings at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. West Ranch is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
West Ranch fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Layton on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 7-6. The Wildcats' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Landon Hu was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Roen, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Even though they lost, West Ranch hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in eight consecutive games.
Castaic typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Valencia proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 5-1 win over the Coyotes.
Caleb Crawford looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tyler Wertz, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Valencia's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 2-1 (and 3-6 when he doesn't). Colten Biggs was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Valencia's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-7. As for West Ranch, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-6.
Valencia's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: West Ranch hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. It's a different story for Valencia, though, as they've only averaged .245. Will they be able to contain West Ranch's hitters?
West Ranch beat Valencia 3-0 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Does West Ranch have another victory up their sleeve, or will Valencia turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
