The McGuffey Highlanders had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against Burgettstown by a score of 41-33 on Friday. This was payback for McGuffey, who suffered a 66-40 defeat the last time these two teams met.
McGuffey's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Schumacher, who scored 13 points along with 8 rebounds and 6 steals. Another player making a difference was Libby Mallah, who scored 10 points.
McGuffey's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Burgettstown, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
McGuffey will take on Mapletown at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Mapletown focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday.
