Valor Christian hasn't had much luck against Columbine recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Eagles will face off against the Rebels at 4:00 p.m. Valor Christian will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Valor Christian's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over Chatfield.
Not much got past Elizabeth Canales, who gave up just two hits and racked up 13 Ks to keep Chatfield off the board. Canales has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kendall Ferguson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Andrews, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Columbine faced Arvada West in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Rebels walked away with an 8-4 win over the Wildcats.
Mason Abraham and Nina Vargas did most of the damage at the plate: Abraham got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs, while Vargas went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Olivia Keiter was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Columbine hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Valor Christian's record now sits at 12-7. As for Columbine, their record is now 13-5.
Columbine's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Valor Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Columbine, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Valor Christian keep running through batters, or will the Rebels buck the trend?
Valor Christian couldn't quite get it done against Columbine in their previous meeting back in September as they fell 9-6. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
