The Antelope Titans will venture away from home to challenge the McClatchy Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Antelope is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Antelope didn't have quite enough to beat Cordova and fell 2-1.
Branden Medina was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, Antelope saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Hodson, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, McClatchy entered their contest against Pleasant Grove on Saturday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Lions took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
McClatchy also got a good showing from Camden Salisbury, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Salisbury has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Elias Ortega was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
Antelope's record now sits at 8-7. As for McClatchy, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 14-2.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Antelope has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like McClatchy struggles in that department as they've averaged .491. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Antelope suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to McClatchy in their previous matchup back in March of 2015. Can the Titans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
