The Heritage Patriots are taking a road trip to challenge the Pittsburg Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Heritage is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
Heritage's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Deer Valley with a sharp 13-0 win. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.
JZ McArthur and Anthony Bellone dominated on the mound. McArthur pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Bellone tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Cooper Melissare and Nathan Reynolds did most of the damage at the plate: Melissare went 1-for-5 with two runs and one double, while Reynolds went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Those three hits gave Reynolds a new career-high. Peyton Donleavy was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Heritage always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .587. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Deer Valley only posted an OBP of .214.
Meanwhile, Pittsburg fell victim to Freedom and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Falcons. The game marked the first time this year in which the Pirates were not able to get on the board.
Pittsburg also got a good showing from Desmond Toomer, who kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. What's more, Toomer gave up only zero hits, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Pittsburg saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aaron Del Real, who went 2-for-3 with one triple.
Heritage's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pittsburg, they moved to 14-2 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
Heritage beat Pittsburg 4-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
