Two dominant in Savannah Govea and Maryanne Palacios are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Colton Yellowjackets will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Banning Broncos at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Colton will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Even though Colton has not done well against Grand Terrace recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Colton slipped by Grand Terrace 53-52. The win was all the more spectacular given Colton's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 660th, while Grand Terrace is ranked 320th).
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Banning, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 62-44 loss to Redlands East Valley on Thursday.
Banning might have lost, but man, Palacios was a machine: she scored 31 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Palacios scored a full 70.5% of Banning's points, the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Symora Prince, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
Colton has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Banning, they bumped their record down to 4-7 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Everything went Colton's way against Banning in their previous meeting back in November as Colton made off with a 51-31 victory. Will Colton repeat their success, or does Banning have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
