The May River Sharks will venture away from home to square off against the Colleton County Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
If May River beats Colleton County with 14 runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Everything went the Sharks' way against Beaufort on Wednesday as they made off with a 14-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Sharks, who have now won five contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Caydon Swofford made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Swofford was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Charlotte Berkley, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Brielle Milliron, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.
May River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Colleton County was able to grind out a solid victory over Hilton Head Island on Wednesday, taking the game 10-6. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Seahawks: they've now won seven in a row.
Demitria Jones was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Xiomara Oxner was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
May River's record is now 8-4. As for Colleton County, their record now sits at 9-7.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. May River has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Colleton County struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went May River's way against Colleton County when the teams last played on April 1st, as May River made off with a 10-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sharks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
