Scottsbluff has gone a perfect 10-0 against Gering recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Bearcats will head out to challenge the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Scottsbluff will be strutting in after a victory while Gering will be coming in after a defeat.
Scottsbluff will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up six points last Friday, then bounced right back against Lexington on Friday. The Bearcats took their matchup with ease, bagging a 56-7 win over the Minutemen. Given the Bearcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 28th, while the Minutemen are ranked 119th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Nate Kelley continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 177 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. His longest rush was for an incredible 75 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Young, who rushed for 87 yards and a pair of TDs on only six carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Scottsbluff was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 503 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Scottsbluff's defense and their four sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Kobe Strom and Riley Stricker, who each picked up 0.5 sacks apiece.
Meanwhile, Gering played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 41-17 to McCook. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Bison recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Although Gering took the loss, they still got scores from Bo Gable and Ryland Ray.
Scottsbluff's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 32.7 points. As for Gering, their loss was their first of the season and also makes their record 4-1.
Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Kelley and Rece Knight. Kelley just won't slow down this season and has thrown 4 touchdowns while averaging 84.8 passing yards per game. Knight has been a dominant force too and has thrown 7 touchdowns while averaging 110.6 passing yards per game.
Everything came up roses for Scottsbluff against Gering in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 35-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bearcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
