The West Craven Eagles pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 71-55 bruising from East Carteret. West Craven was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as East Carteret apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
When it comes to explaining why West Craven lost, one person who can't be blamed is Amari Boomer. Despite the final result, he scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamez Simmons, who scored 15 points.
East Carteret's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Shamel Baker led the charge by scoring 26 points along with five assists. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which Baker has scored at least 25% of East Carteret's points. Another player making a difference was Charles Matheka, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten assists.
West Craven has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season. As for East Carteret, their victory bumped their record up to 6-7.
West Craven will be playing in front of their home fans against Farmville Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Farmville Central's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for East Carteret, they will head out on the road to face off against Northside - Pinetown at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Northside - Pinetown will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak alive.
