The Canyon Cowboys are on the road again on Thursday and play against the Foothill Cougars at 10:30 a.m. on December 28th. Hopefully Canyon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Thursday.
Canyon struggled with offensive rebounds on Thursday (Casteel had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. The game between the pair wasn't particularly close, with Canyon falling 51-36. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 345th in California, while Casteel is ranked 92nd in Arizona).
Despite the defeat, Canyon saw an underclassman step up: Isabella Escribano scored 26 points. Escribano scored a full 72.2% of Canyon's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Lanie Rafkind was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Meanwhile, Foothill pushed their score all the way to 55 last Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Woodcreek 61-55.
Lexi Peters put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 23 points. The matchup was her 12th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kalea Thomas, who scored ten points.
Canyon has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Foothill, their loss dropped their record down to 9-3.
