The San Diego Cavers will venture away from home to square off against the Chula Vista Spartans at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
San Diego not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15, 2024. Everything went their way against Rich Township as San Diego made off with a 14-6 victory. The Cavers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
San Diego got a great performance from George Carabet as he pitched five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off only one hit. Carabet is becoming a predictor of San Diego's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 0-5 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Aidan Hochman was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three runs, three doubles, and four RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Jayden Harris was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-5.
San Diego was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rich Township only posted a batting average of .174.
Meanwhile, Chula Vista entered their tilt with Kearny on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Komets 14-3.
Pablo Alvarado made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jose De La Cruz, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. He also put up three RBI, which were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brandon Lucero, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5.
San Diego's win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-6. As for Chula Vista, they now have a winning record of 4-3-1.
San Diego suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Chula Vista in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. Can San Diego avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
