Last Friday, La Jolla Country Day didn't have too much trouble with Francis Parker at home as they won 52-36. Given La Jolla Country Day's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while Francis Parker is ranked 101st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Naomi Panganiban was her usual excellent self, going 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 34 points and 1 assist. She has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 13 times she's played. Mei-ling Perry was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Rancho Bernardo has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They lost to Poway on the road by a decisive 40-25 margin on Friday. Rancho Bernardo has struggled against Poway recently, as their matchup on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Keira Tokushige, who scored 11 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Neidre, who scored six points.
La Jolla Country Day has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season. As for Rancho Bernardo, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 19-9 record this season.
