The Gatewood Gators will face off against the Central Fellowship Christian Academy Lancers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
On Thursday, Gatewood came up short against Tattnall Square Academy and fell 6-3.
Walker Roberts put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Roberts wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Drew Love, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Even though they lost, Gatewood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tattnall Square Academy only managed seven hits.
Meanwhile, Central Fellowship Christian Academy had to endure a 13-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Covenant Academy by a score of 16-12 on Thursday. The Lancers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Like Gatewood, Central Fellowship Christian Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Matthew Albritton. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the fewest earned runs Albritton has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-5. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Summer, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Barron Hamilton, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Central Fellowship Christian Academy's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-10. As for Gatewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-5.
Gatewood's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's matchup. Gatewood has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Central Fellowship Christian Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Gatewood continue to outrun the ball?
Gatewood took their win against Central Fellowship Christian Academy in their previous matchup on Tuesday by a conclusive 17-5. Will Gatewood repeat their success, or does Central Fellowship Christian Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
