The Deer Valley Wolverines will head out on the road to face off against the Freedom Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Deer Valley is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 77-27, which was the final score in Deer Valley's tilt against Liberty on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Deer Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 963rd, while Liberty is ranked 253rd).
Freedom suffered their biggest loss since December 21, 2023 on Friday. Their rough 64-40 defeat to Heritage might stick with them for a while. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Freedom has suffered against Heritage since May 18, 2021.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Eve Monzon, who scored 22 points. That was a full 55% of Freedom's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ariel De La O was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Freedom struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Heritage racked up 15 assists.
Deer Valley bumped their record down to 1-7 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Freedom, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.
Deer Valley came up short against Freedom in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 59-47. Thankfully for Deer Valley, Nansa Jimissa (who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 18 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
