The Cerritos Dons will head out on the road to challenge the Woodrow Wilson Bruins at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Cerritos turned things around against Downey on Friday. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Vikings.
Frank Melendrez looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Dalton Chi was incredible, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Adrian Regis, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Woodrow Wilson was able to grind out a solid win over Lakewood on Friday, taking the game 4-1. The victory continues a trend for the Bruins in their matchups with the Lancers: they've now won four in a row.
Ben Howard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Woodrow Wilson is 5-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-3 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Eddie Becker, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.
Woodrow Wilson pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Cerritos, their record now sits at 4-9.
Everything went Cerritos' way against Woodrow Wilson in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Cerritos made off with an 8-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cerritos since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
