The Big Sandy Wildcats pushed their score all the way to 72 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 73-72 to Union Grove. Big Sandy has not had much luck with Union Grove recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Big Sandy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Malijah Francis. Despite the final result, he went 7 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 32 points and 5 assists. Ka'myrie Fountain was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 assists.
It was another big night for Jace Roberts, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 18 rebounds for Union Grove. That makes it three consecutive games in which Roberts has scored at least 25% of Union Grove's points. Another player making a difference was Peyton Laake, who scored 18 points along with five assists.
Big Sandy bumped their record down to 8-10 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Union Grove, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-10.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing McLeod the next time they take the court. Big Sandy will host McLeod at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Union Grove will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
