Ellie Zinanti spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on ten hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Pueblo Centennial let Juanita Portillo and Kayli Smiley run wild. Portillo went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Smiley went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits Portillo has posted since back in August.
Meanwhile, Pueblo County faced Pueblo West in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Hornets narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Cyclones 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hornets have posted since September 4th.
Pueblo County also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kamdyn Toussaint gave up just two earned runs on four hits.
At the plate, Aubree Peralta was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Mia Carrillo was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases.
Pueblo Centennial's record now sits at 8-6. As for Pueblo County, their record is now 11-4.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Pueblo Centennial has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Pueblo County struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pueblo Centennial couldn't quite finish off Pueblo County in their previous matchup on September 4th and fell 3-1. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
