The Canyon Cowboys won against the Valencia Vikings last Tuesday with 60 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. Canyon walked away with a 60-47 win over Valencia. The win was nothing new for Canyon as they're now sitting on three straight.
Canyon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Josie Regez out in front who scored 19 points. Regez is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Isabella Escribano was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Despite the defeat, Valencia saw an underclassman step up: Cara McKell dropped a double-double on 24 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Keira McLaughlin, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 13-12 record this season. As for Valencia, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-16.
Canyon will stay at home for another game and welcome Castaic at 4:45 p.m. on January 30th. Castaic has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 9. As for Valencia, they will head out on the road to square off against Golden Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Golden Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 851st, while Valencia is ranked 399th).
