The Athens Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 35-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of Williamson. While losing is never fun, Athens can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 570th, while Williamson is ranked 242nd).
Williamson's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olivia Meisner, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Meisner is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 18 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kenna Thomas, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three blocks.
Athens' defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Williamson, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season.
Athens will be playing in front of their home fans against Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Williamson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
