The West Warwick Wizards are taking a road trip to challenge the Scituate Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. West Warwick is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
West Warwick had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Times Squared Academy on Tuesday. The Wizards blew past the Eagles 17-1. The contest marked the Wizards' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Nick Andruchow was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Jack Proulx also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: West Warwick kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Scituate fell victim to Woonsocket and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Villa Novans by a score of 1-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Spartans were not able to get on the board.
Jackson Scanlon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up seven Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Scituate's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 3-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't).
West Warwick pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Scituate, they moved to 5-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
Scituate's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: West Warwick hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. It's a different story for Scituate, though, as they've only averaged .258. Will they be able to contain West Warwick's hitters?
Everything went West Warwick's way against Scituate when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as West Warwick made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wizards since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
