Springfield and Western Reserve are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Springfield Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Western Reserve Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Springfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Thursday.
In what's become a running theme this season, Springfield gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 50-24 margin over Jackson-Milton. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 31-11.
Springfield relied on the efforts of Karigan Mullen, who scored 12 points along with six assists and two steals, and Jameka Brungard, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Mullen continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Kendall Maughan was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Western Reserve ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 39-38 victory over Mogadore. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Western Reserve.
Springfield is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for Western Reserve, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.
Springfield barely slipped by Western Reserve when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 42-41. The rematch might be a little tougher for Springfield since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
