After a string of four wins, The Weed Cougars''s good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 42-30 to Portola. Weed lost against Portola in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 32-14 score last time.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Logan Bowles, who gained 117 total yards and two touchdowns. Marcus Horton also helped out as he racked up 103 rushing yards.
Magnus Berg continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Portola, rushing for 207 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Berg is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last four games he's played. Cody Wilmer and his 119 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Portola's victory.
Weed's loss dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Portola, their win was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0.
Weed will head out on the road to face off against Modoc at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Portola will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Quincy at 7:30 p.m. on November 3rd.
