This season hasn't been kind to the John Bartram Braves, who are still winless after their fourth match. They had to suffer through a rough 41-14 loss at the hands of Frankford. While losing is never fun, John Bartram can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 580th, while Frankford is ranked 156th).
Despite the defeat, John Bartram saw an underclassman step up: Trammel Guyton scored nine points along with three steals. Guyton scored a full 64.3% of John Bartram's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
It was another big night for Janeliss Laboy, who scored 17 points along with four steals for Frankford. The match was Laboy's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Zanayiah Cross, who scored eight points along with five assists and three steals.
John Bartram bumped their record down to 0-4 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.5 points per game. As for Frankford, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
John Bartram will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Science Leadership Academy at 3:15 p.m. on January 8, 2024. Frankford will be home for the holidays to greet Girard Academic Music Program at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Girard Academic Music Program comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
