Baseball Game Preview: Alhambra Bulldogs vs. St. Joseph Notre Dame Pilots

The Alhambra Bulldogs will venture away from home to face off against the St. Joseph Notre Dame Pilots at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Alhambra's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so St. Joseph Notre Dame's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Alhambra is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Harbor 12-3 on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Ethan Kushner looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Morgan Tran, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Darrian Thornton, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Alhambra kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when St. Joseph Notre Dame and St. Patrick-St. Vincent meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Saturday. St. Joseph Notre Dame fell just short of St. Patrick-St. Vincent by a score of 6-5.

Isaiah Dumont made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Nikko Flores, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one double.

The win made it two in a row for Alhambra and bumps their season record up to 3-2. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.5 hits in those games compared to only three in the others. As for St. Joseph Notre Dame, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
