The Chavez Titans will head out on the road to face off against the Weston Ranch Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Chavez has given up an average of 11.7 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Chavez fell victim to Edison and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Vikings, falling 15-0. The loss continues a trend for the Titans in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost eight in a row.
Meanwhile, Weston Ranch got themselves on the board against McNair on Friday, but McNair never followed suit. They blew past the Eagles 10-0. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won six in a row.
Ruben Sandoval made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Weston Ranch is 2-1 when Sandoval allows two or fewer hits, but 5-11 otherwise. Sandoval was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Weston Ranch let Anthony (AJ) Arias and Nicolas (Nico) Orona run wild. Arias went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Orona went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Orona has become a key player for Weston Ranch: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ethan Linares, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Weston Ranch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McNair only posted a batting average of .125.
Chavez's defeat dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Weston Ranch, their record now sits at 7-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Chavez has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Weston Ranch struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Chavez couldn't quite get it done against Weston Ranch when the teams last played back in April of 2025 as they fell 12-7. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
