The Praise Academy Lions will head out to face off against the Central Christian Crusaders at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Praise Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Praise Academy made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Unity Christian, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Praise Academy blew past Unity Christian 9-1 on Friday.
Cap Cheshire made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Cheshire was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3.
In other pitching news, Hunter Ivey tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Aden Brown, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3. Elijah Pomerinke also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Central Christian owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They put the hurt on Abundant Life Christian Academy with a sharp 6-0 win. The Crusaders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by six runs or more this season.
Like Praise Academy, Central Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Aaron Boyd. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Boyd was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Anthony Lorfano was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Tucker Handley, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3.
The victory made it two in a row for Central Christian and bumps their season record up to 4-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Praise Academy, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Praise Academy couldn't quite get it done against Central Christian in their previous meeting back in March of 2019 as they fell 6-3. Can Praise Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
