Central City extended their winning streak to eight on Saturday, bumping them up to 14-2. They were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Ponca Indians. The result was nothing new for the Bison, who have now won 11 contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Payton Burbach made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Central City got a massive performance out of Journi Schindler, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Schindler is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Emma Brandes, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Central City hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in 12 consecutive games.
As for Ponca, they moved to 8-11 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss they have suffered since September 5th.
On Ponca's side, they saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lyndsee Waldee, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Central City is set to square off against their familiar foe Southern Valley/Alma at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Ponca will take on rival Wayne at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
