The Allegany Campers will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Eastern Tech Mavericks at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Allegany comes in on four and Eastern Tech on three.
Allegany has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 38 points or more this season. They took their match at home on Thursday with ease, bagging a 75-36 victory over Berkeley Springs.
Meanwhile, Eastern Tech didn't have too much trouble with Carver A&T on the road last Wednesday as they won 65-46. Given Eastern Tech's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 80th, while Carver A&T is ranked 281st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Eastern Tech's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jericho Wondeye, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds, and Matthew Foley, who scored 23 points along with seven steals. Those seven steals set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Jake Prior, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Allegany's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Eastern Tech, they pushed their record up to 6-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Allegany and Eastern Tech were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, but Allegany came up empty-handed after a 84-83 defeat. Can Allegany avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
