The Costa Mesa Mustangs fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Estancia Eagles on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 32-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. Costa Mesa just can't catch a break and has now endured three defeats in a row.
Despite the defeat, Costa Mesa saw an underclassman step up: Mya Martinez scored 13 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Martinez has scored all season. Leilani Quero was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Costa Mesa has not been sharp recently, as they've lost 13 of their last 15 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. As for Estancia, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-9.
Costa Mesa will take on NOVA Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Estancia, they will head out on the road to face off against Orange at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
