El Monte is 0-10 against Gabrielino since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The El Monte Lions will be home for the holidays to greet the Gabrielino Eagles at 5:00 p.m. El Monte comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last seven games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Last Wednesday, El Monte took a serious blow against Arroyo, falling 60-19. El Monte was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-8.
Meanwhile, Gabrielino humbled South El Monte with a 60-18 victory. With Gabrielino ahead 39-8 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Gabrielino had a senior duo take command as Mia Lim scored 12 points along with eight steals and Sarah Banh scored 15 points along with three steals. The contest was Lim's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Maya Katz was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
El Monte bumped their record down to 0-7 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Gabrielino, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season.
El Monte took a serious blow against Gabrielino in their previous matchup back in January, falling 56-18. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point El Monte was down 36-6.
