The Phillipsburg Stateliners waltzed into their game Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They enjoyed a cozy 69-53 victory over Warren Hills Regional. That's another feather in the cap for Phillipsburg, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Andrew Martin continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 23 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that he pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Matthew Scerbo Jr., who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Phillipsburg's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Warren Hills Regional, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.
Phillipsburg will finish 2023 at home by hosting Freedom at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Freedom will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 463rd in Pennsylvania, while Phillipsburg is ranked 57th in New Jersey). Warren Hills Regional will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Newton at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
