Dos Palos is a perfect 10-0 against Coalinga since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Broncos are taking a road trip to take on the Horned Toads at 4:00 p.m.
Dos Palos is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest defeat since March 18th on Thursday. They came up short against Chowchilla, falling 11-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Broncos haven't been shut out since back in March.
Coalinga never got on the board in their matchup last Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Tranquillity on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 18-1 margin over the Tigers. Considering the Horned Toads have won six contests by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Luke Wojewoda made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with five RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Manny Telles, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Drake 'Swish' Stevens was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Coalinga is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Dos Palos, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-10-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Dos Palos has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Coalinga struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Dos Palos came out on top in a nail-biter against Coalinga when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 12-11. Will the Broncos repeat their success, or do the Horned Toads have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
