The Drumright Tornadoes and the Velma-Alma Comets squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Drumright Tornadoes had to settle for second. They were the victim of a tough 50-30 loss at the hands of the Comets. Drumright's loss signaled the end of their 13-game winning streak dating back to last season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Velma-Alma to victory, but perhaps none more so than Slade Strickland, who rushed for 174 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 264 yards and four touchdowns while completing 79.3% of his passes. Strickland was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 51 yards. Langsten Walker was another key contributor, picking up 187 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Drumright's loss dropped their record down to 12-1. As for Velma-Alma, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-1.
Drumright does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Velma-Alma is on the road again on Friday and play against Okeene. Okeene has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 244 points over their last five contests.
