Douglas County extended their losing streak to seven on Friday, dropping them down to 1-11. They fell 17-13 to the Chapel Hill Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-1 on Wednesday.
Malachi Collins and Nayland Patton stepped up to the plate in a big way. Collins got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Patton went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Maxwell Moon, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Chapel Hill, their victory ended an eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-14. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Chapel Hill's side, Jackson Lawrence made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Lawrence also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Chapel Hill is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-13 otherwise. Lawrence was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Brennan Austin was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. JR Asberry was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
While Douglas County had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
