Two dominant players in Hunter Heikes and Jordan Faimon are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Tri County Northeast Wolfpack are on the road again on Thursday and play against the Silver Lake Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on December 28th. Hopefully Tri County Northeast focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Tri County Northeast escaped with a win against Tekamah-Herman by the margin of a single free throw, 46-45. The win was just what Tri County Northeast needed coming off of a 73-36 loss in their prior matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tri County Northeast to victory, but perhaps none more so than Heikes, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which Heikes has scored at least 25% of Tri County Northeast's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Belt, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Silver Lake waltzed into their contest last Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They blew past Kenesaw 63-34 on the road. The result was nothing new for Silver Lake, who have now won three matchups by 27 points or more so far this season.
Tayten Menke and Faimon were among the main playmakers for Silver Lake as the former scored 20 points along with six steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. Faimon continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Keaton Karr was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five steals.
Tri County Northeast's record is now 3-5. Silver Lake's record is now 5-1.
Thursday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Tri County Northeast have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 37.5% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Silver Lake struggles in that department as they've drained 41.8% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
