The Rancho Bernardo Broncos will face off against the Torrey Pines Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Rancho Bernardo's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Torrey Pines has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Rancho Bernardo and San Marcos, and San Marcos kept the tradition alive. The Broncos fell just short of the Knights by a score of 7-6 on Friday.
NATHAN LING was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Brady Strachan made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of NATHAN BEMBENEK, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
La Costa Canyon hit Torrey Pines with a four-run fifth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Falcons took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mavericks. That's two games in a row now that the Falcons have lost by exactly three runs.
Torrey Pines also got a good showing from Alex Waisbord, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Furthermore, Waisbord didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April.
At the plate, Camden Nishnick was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Logan Cole was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Torrey Pines' loss dropped their record down to 11-13. As for Rancho Bernardo, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-11.
Rancho Bernardo suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Torrey Pines in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Broncos avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
