The Gilman City Hawks will venture away from home to challenge the Grundy County Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gilman City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Gilman City was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Mercer on Thursday. The Hawks were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over the Cardinals. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Tenley Griffith and Alli Burke made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Griffith pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Burke pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Griffith got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Burke went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Gilman City got a massive performance out of Khloey Sperry, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Caitlynn Chalfant, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
Gilman City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mercer only managed one.
Grundy County had taken Meadville down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Monday. The Panthers came up short against the Eagles, falling 13-3. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Gilman City's record now sits at 7-3. As for Grundy County, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Gilman City beat Grundy County 6-1 when the teams last played on September 11th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
