Watertown had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 4-9 to make it four. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Lewis Falcons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-13 on Monday.
As for South Lewis, the win was the 15th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games.
For South Lewis' part, Kal Cihocki was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Cihocki was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Varick LeVan tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, South Lewis let Case Allen and Robert Dailey run wild. Allen went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Dailey went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that Dailey has hit this season. Nolan Widrick was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Watertown is set to challenge their familiar foe General Brown at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, South Lewis will face off against rival Indian River at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Falcons 3.5, the Wolves 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
