Baseball Game Preview: Credo Gryphon vs. Willits Wolverines

The Credo Gryphon will head out to square off against the Willits Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Credo is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Sonoma Academy just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Coyotes by a score of 7-6.

Henry Humphreys was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.

Humphreys wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Thadeus Cole, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4. Cole is becoming a predictor of Credo's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't).

Meanwhile, Willits might've scored the first runs on Monday, but it was Sonoma Academy who claimed the real prize. The Wolverines lost 16-6 to the Coyotes.

Willits has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Credo, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-4.

Credo skirted past Willits 9-8 when the teams last played back in March of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gryphon since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
