The Whale Branch Warriors and the Hunter-Kinard-Tyler Trojans will face off at 12:30 p.m. on December 28th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
On Wednesday, Whale Branch was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 56-51 to Calhoun County.
Loss or not, Whale Branch got some senior leadership from Bradford Thompson who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds and Greggory Gilbert who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. Thompson scored a full 39.2% of Whale Branch's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Hunter-Kinard-Tyler took a serious blow against Woodland on Wednesday, falling 74-42. While losing is never fun, Hunter-Kinard-Tyler can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 210th, while Woodland is ranked 84th).
Whale Branch now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Hunter-Kinard-Tyler, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
