The Woodside Wildcats will square off against the More Knights at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Woodside has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while More will arrive with nine straight victories.
Woodside's last matchup with Menlo School could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Thursday. The Wildcats came up short against the Knights, falling 23-9. Even though they lost, the Wildcats' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.2 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Woodside saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cruz Torres, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another was Diego Perez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, More got themselves on the board against KIPP San Jose Collegiate on Friday, but KIPP San Jose Collegiate never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Wolfpack with a sharp 15-0 win. Considering the Knights have won nine games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Gabe Detar and Anthony Selway were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Detar struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Selway pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. At bat, Detar went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and three runs, while Selway went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, More got a massive performance out of Blaise Boudreaux, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave Boudreaux a new career-high. Charles Selway was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
More pushed their record up to 15-8 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Woodside, their loss dropped their record down to 9-14.
Both Woodside and More just can't seem to miss. The Wildcats have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. However, it's not like More struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
