Foothill is 0-3 against Irvine since November of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. Having just played yesterday, the Foothill Knights will jump right back in to play the Irvine Vaqueros at 2:30 p.m. Foothill is hoping to put an end to an 11-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Foothill scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat United Christian Academy 64-31 on the road. That looming 64-31 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Foothill yet this season.
Foothill relied on the efforts of Jay Perez, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds and six assists, and Elize McAveney, who scored 19 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which McAveney has scored at least 25% of Foothill's points. Another player making a difference was Nella Banuelos, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Irvine came up short against West on Wednesday and fell 45-33. While losing is never fun, Irvine can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 368th, while West is ranked 129th).
Foothill's win bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Irvine, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
Foothill took a serious blow against Irvine in their previous matchup back in November, falling 65-30. Can Foothill avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
