Cumberland has won six straight games at home, while South Kingstown has won six straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Clippers will welcome the Rebels at 4:15 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Cumberland 2.8, South Kingstown 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Cumberland is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Cranston West, who was ranked tenth at the time (Cumberland was ranked second). Ben Jahnz tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 15 over 6.2 innings pitched. Those 15 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Cumberland's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Nocera, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases Nocera has posted since back in April.
Cumberland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cranston West only posted a batting average of .231.
Meanwhile, South Kingstown earned a 3-0 victory over East Providence on Tuesday.
Connor Wokoske looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Brayden Rosen was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
South Kingstown has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Cumberland, their victory bumped their record up to 17-4.
Both Cumberland and South Kingstown just can't seem to miss. The Clippers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like South Kingstown struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.6 hits.
